Adam has been thinking of proposing to Julia for a really long time. He can't figure out how to do it so finally, one blistery cold winter day he invites her to go on a walk with him. He takes her down to a bench by the bridge and the river. This is where they first kissed and he figures it is probably as sentimental a spot as any. Julia is a little bit nervous because Adam and her live together and she can tell that something has been on her mind. She guesses that this might be the day that he asks her to marry him. Adam is nervous as hell. Julia is glad that Adam loves her but doesn't know if she wants to get married just yet. She is of the thinking that marriage isn't a necessary next step, it can wait, and that two people can be committed without being legally committed to each other in matrimony. Adam sees marriage as the natural next step. The two have already been living together and sleeping together and have talked about kids and everything. Julia decides that if Adam asks her she will postpone marriage until she is sure.
